After last year's 90s party fell victim to a storm, we were lucky with the weather this year – the event was under a good star. At the last minute, about 20 cm of snow fell on Saturday evening, and preparations began immediately. Together with Adrian from the piste team, we prepared the forecourt near the Timbar. Nothing stood in the way of the exuberant "dance moves" of the 90s.
On Sunday, at 9 a.m. sharp, the first 90s disco beats blared from the speakers we'd rented from the St. Gallen Cultural Office. To test the volume, we turned the volume up to full volume – the staff member upstairs at the Chlushüsli promptly started nodding along to the beat. So the music was playing, and gadgets like Big Foots and Pommes-Frittli skis were ready for the full 90s feeling. Little by little, people arrived on the mountain, and the glorious blue and white conditions were perfectly complemented by bright 90s ski suits.
At lunchtime, Kobragypsy, aka Shirin Dörig, took to the stage and brought the party to a fever pitch with her hot records. There was dancing, singing, and occasional waving of the long French fries skis – until the bitter shutdown of the ski lift.
It was a fantastic party and a fitting end to the Appenzell ski season – thanks to everyone involved. A big thank you to the Ebenalp/Horn ski area, the Ebenalp mountain inn, the Weissbad Lodge, and Appenzell Tourism for their tremendous support.
